Geneva: A Lovely Town
Geneva is Switzerland’s second largest city and thought by many to be it’s loveliest. The city has managed to grow and keep up with the times while keeping its magnificent culture and traditions alive. The city dwellers consider French their native language and some even believe that this Swiss city should be annexed by France. The city is known worldwide for being the home of the United Nations, the Red Cross, and the WHO or World Health Organization.
Many famous authors came to this lovely city for inspiration and were welcomed and embraced by the local people. Voltaire, Shelley, and Byron all considered Geneva home at one time or another. The mountains surrounding the city are thought to be so majestic that they can inspire anyone to greatness when considering their majesty.
Geneva is a very wealthy city with very rich residents located on Lake Geneva, Lac Leman to the natives. The city is clean and safe allowing visitors to have few worries when taking a holiday here. The city’s strong ties to nearby France can be seen not only in the language of Geneva, but also in its architecture, culture, and traditions.
Geneva is one of Europe’s best places to ring in the New Year. The New Year’s festival in Geneva is held in old town, (vieille Ville in French), and includes many activities for both adults and children. Music, food, and celebrations are held throughout the old town’s streets.
